Why Measure Teacher Salaries in US Dollars?

Why measure teacher salaries across the globe in US dollars? The reason for using the US dollar when comparing teacher salaries across the world, is that the US dollar is the world’s most traded currency and the world’s primary reserve currency. The US dollar, however, is only the tenth most valuable currency in the world since the Euro – after two decades – reached parity with the US dollar in July 2022.

The US Dollar, as the world’s most traded currency, has moved to the 10th most valuable after the Euro reached parity on July 12, 2022.

The US dollar became the world’s primary reserve currency since the Brenton Woods agreement of 1944 and even more so since the USA abandoned the Gold Standard in 1971. The US dollar, however, ranks only 10th as the world’s most valuable currency, behind the British Pound, Swiss Frank, and the Euro.

The Kuwaiti Dinar is the world’s most valuable currency, with the Bahraini Dinar and Omani Rial ranking second and third. This explains why teachers in Kuwait, the UAE and Switzerland are among the best paid in the world.
